RoofMetric uses Meta's Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM 2) — the same vision AI that powers Facebook's smart cropping — combined with Google's Solar API for pitch and surface-area data. The result: you point at a roof in the satellite view, the AI traces it accurately enough for residential bidding in seconds.
The flow:
- Type the customer's address. The map zooms to that property.
- Click anywhere on the roof.
- AI traces the outline in 2–4 seconds.
- Drag corners to refine if needed (rare — usually accurate first try).
- Squares, pitch, perimeter, eaves, ridges, and rake all auto-calculate.
How accurate is it?
For residential roofs visible on current satellite imagery, AI tracing is consistently within 2–3% of surveyor-grade measurements. We pull pitch from Google's Solar API where available (most US suburbs), and fall back to your regional pitch default if not.
For situations needing court-defensible numbers (large hail-damage insurance claims, public agency bids), we recommend using EagleView or HOVER for THAT specific job and importing the PDF — RoofMetric extracts the measurements automatically.
What about garages, sheds, multi-building lots?
Click each building separately. The AI handles the house, the detached garage, the shed in the back — each gets its own outline and joins the same estimate. The total square footage is summed across all buildings.
